The season for fresh grapes runs for six to seven months. It starts in November, peaks in February and March and closes in May.
Green grapes contain vitamins A, C, and K, copper, manganese and antioxidants including flavanols. Grapes are a sweet, low-fat and low-calorie treat.
Go for bright and beautiful colours, avoid those looking mouldy and shrivelled. Green Grapes are the sweetest and best flavoured when they are yellow-green in colour.
Don't wash them right away, just wait until you're ready to eat them. This helps to avoid excess moisture.
Before and during storage, look for any grape with signs of mould or shrivelling as they are likely to deteriorate faster and affect the others. Discard any grapes that may not be in good condition.
Keep them cold: like many other fruit, grapes are best kept in the fridge at around 4 degrees celsius. Place them near the back of the fridge, as it is normally cooler there. When storing grapes, be sure to store them away from odorous foods, such as onions and leeks, as grapes have the ability to absorb odours.
They will keep up to two weeks when stored in a breathable container inside the fridge.
They can also be frozen for up to twelve months.
