Spring Has Finally Sprung: What’s Fresh and Local This Season

As we step into Spring, it's the perfect time to embrace the vibrant, fresh produce that this season brings. From September through November, Aussie farms are bursting with flavour, offering a delightful array of fruits and vegetables that are at their peak. Here's what you can look forward to:

🥦 Vegetables in Season

Spring is a brilliant time for fresh produce, with big leafy bunches like Curly Kale, Black Kale, Rainbow Chard, Bok Choi, Cos Lettuce, Salad Mix, Rocket, and Baby Spinach. Many of our lettuces and fresh herbs, including Coriander, Dill and Parsley, are coming from The Beach Farm in Noosa, a certified organic and biodynamic grower.

Noosa Red tomatoes are back in abundance, joined this year by their bumpy Heirloom cousins that are absolutely bursting with colour, flavour, and juiciness.

And just because we love a bit of brightly-coloured produce here, have you noticed how good the Purple Broccoli Bunches and Radish Bunches are looking right now?

Our partner-farm in Gympie is delivering some seriously-impressive goods this season. It feels so good knowing that we can bring you and your families the best Cauliflower, Beans, Broccoli, Brussels Sprouts, Snow Peas, Yellow Squash, Sweet Potato and Zucchini grown right in our very own foodbowl of the greater Sunshine Coast region.

Avocados are shining too, with Hass and Wurtz varieties from the Mary Valley adding creamy goodness to Spring salads. Garlic and Onions are in seasonal transition, which means quality is on the rise and prices will soon ease, especially for Garlic.

Celery is still plentiful after winter, and prices have come right down. Perfect for juicing, snacking, or adding crunch to meals.

And don’t miss the short-but-sweet season for Spring gems like Asparagus, Corn, and Artichokes. When you spot them, add them to your Good Harvest organic box or pick some up at the markets while they last!

🍓 Fruits in Season

Spring also brings a bounty of sweet, refreshing fruits at their peak for flavour and nutrition.

Melons are one of our favourites this time of year. Rockmelons are already arriving at the markets, with baby Watermelons, sugar melons, and yellow champagne watermelons not far behind.

We still have late-season citrus from our fabulous farmers Neil and Tanya in Gayndah, though September signals the abundance winding down. Sweet Queensland Mandarins, Grapefruit, and Oranges are still available for a little while longer before we transition to southern growers as the season winds down. Limes are finished for the season, but Lemons are still coming through strong.

Crisp Red and Green Apples are arriving from our legendary grower Denis in Stanthorpe, along with Passionfruit, Strawberries, and more berries on the way. Pears continue to look fantastic, and we’ve got plenty of Medjool Dates, Bananas, and Papayas to keep your fruit bowls full.

Looking ahead, keep an eye out for Stonefruit, Mangoes, Cherries, and Grapes, which should be plentiful by the end of Spring.

🌱 Why Eat Seasonally?

Eating with the seasons means enjoying produce at its peak flavour and nutritional value. It's also more sustainable, supporting local farmers and reducing the carbon footprint associated with transporting out-of-season produce. Plus, seasonal eating can inspire creativity in the kitchen as you explore new recipes and flavours.

Embrace the season's harvest and enjoy the fresh, local produce that Spring has to offer. Happy eating!
