June Seasonal Update

May 30, 2023

Oh yayyy! We love winter!

On our farms

Winter on the Sunshine Coast is such a glorious time of year. With our warm sunny days, veggies grow so well even if the nights are cooler. Seedling germination goes to almost 100%, and its a bit too cold for bugs!

The farm crew are propagating and planting around 45 trays of seedlings a week.

Thats 45 trays with 200 seedlings a tray so about 9000 seedlings a week :O

We're planting:

  • Broccoli
  • Baby Spinach
  • Carrot Bunches
  • Beet Bunches
  • Cos Lettuce
  • Butter Lettuce (my fave)
  • Salad Mix
  • Rocket
  • Coriander
  • Thyme
  • Oregano
  • Baby Broccoli
  • Dill
  • Silverbeet
  • Cabbages

We're harvesting most of whats on that list except we're awaiting our first celery harvest, cabbages which will be ready soon, and Baby Spinach! We're also harvesting mountains of Ginger and Turmeric!

This is literally our peak season and we're having so much fun! Be sure to check out our farm tours if you want to come visit the farm.

Whilst we are spoilt with abundance on our farm,  we are still actively working with other local and organic growers to bring you the best organic and spray free produce.

Fruit

Tis the season for....citrus! All kinds of yummy vitamin C loaded goodness is in peak season at the moment including:

  • Mandarins
  • Oranges
  • Grapefruit
  • Lemons
  • Limes

Blood oranges should be on their way soon too! Apples are flavoursome and crisp straight out of Stanthorpe and Pears are super tasty ready for some cinnamon on top of your oats in the morning. Bananas are still in consistent supply although the ripening varies due to the fluctuating temperatures. We're still awaiting the start of the local Strawberry season (soon we promise). Grapes are finishing up now - and Blueberries are also unavailable.

Veggies

Phew! There is so much available! We're enjoying brassicas including Broccoli, Cauliflower and Cabbages! Carrots and Potatoes keep on coming, although Zucchini, Eggplant, Cucumber, Tomato and Capsicum have slowed right down so we expect intermittent supply of these.

Pumpkin is available, as is a good supply of yummy Sweet Potatoes. Beetroot is a favourite for tray bakes and Beet Kvass too. Leafy greens are abundant including Kale, Silverbeet, Lettuce, Salad, Choi, Leeks and more. Handpicked organic Green Beans continue to brighten our dinner plates, as does Baby Broccoli. Corn is becoming limited although we may see a late season flush from Goomboorian :)

Finally, now is definitely the time of year for Celery Juice - its super abundant and super fresh! Yay for feeling good this Winter :)
